Delegation from the University of Goroka in Papua New Guinea visits for exchange

On the morning of May 22, Teng Waninga, President of the University of Goroka in Papua New Guinea, and his delegation visited the UNESCO International Research and Training Centre for Rural Education(INRULED). Prof. Zhang Lili and Prof. Sang Guoyuan, chief experts of INRULED, Ms. Qiao Yang, Project Officer of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office of Beijing Normal University, Dr. Zhao Tongtong, Postdoctoral Fellow of INRULED, Ms. Fang Yuan'an, Project Assistant, and other related staff received visitors. They held a seminar to discuss about the prospects for future cooperation in education and cultural exchanges.

During the meeting, Dr. Zhao Tongtong introduced the institutional history and development of INRULED. She also expressed the asperation to cooperate more deeply with the University of Goroka in the field of rural education. Subsequently, Prof. Zhang Lili, Prof. Sang Guoyuan and Ms. Fang Yuan'an respectively presented the achievements of INRULED's Gender Equality and Women Leadership Project (GED), Quality Teachers for Rural Education Project (QTR), and ICT in Education for Rural Development Project (ICT). Prof. Zhang Lili emphasized the significance of GED’s research and training experiences in promoting gender equality and women's leadership. She expressed her aspiration to engage in more related research initiatives and facilitate student-teacher exchange programs with the University of Goroka. Prof. Sang Guoyuan presented overview of the current status and future plans of the QTR at INRULED, expressing the willingness to collaborate on research and training projects in the field of teacher education with the University of Goroka, with the aim of enhancing the level of teacher training. Ms. Fang Yuan'an introduced the INRULED's major work in the field of ICT and potential opportunities for cooperation.


Teng Waninga, the President of the University of Goroka, shared the work and development direction in the field of education during the meeting. He expressed appreciation for INRULED's efforts in the areas of rural education, gender equality, teacher education and ICT. Furthermore, he actively expressed the willingness to strengthen educational exchange and cooperation with INRULED to jointly promote the development of rural education. Both sides had in-depth exchanges on the future direction of cooperation. They unanimously recognized the broad cooperation opportunities in the fields of gender equality, teacher education, ICT, artificial intelligence education, STEM education, etc. They also hoped to cooperate by establishing cooperative programs, conducting exchange visits of teachers and students, and co-organizing academic seminars. In the future, both sides will further discuss the specific details of cooperation and jointly formulate cooperation plans and goals.
