In recent months, Ms Lan Jian, Mr Zhang Zhaowen, CLC Programme Consultants, and Ms Wu Yunfei, Programme Coordinator at the International Research and Training Centre for Rural Education (INRULED), conducted field visits to Jiangsu, Henan, and Zhejiang provinces. The visits supported provincial exchange seminars under the Capacity Building Project for Rural Community Learning Centres (CLCs) in China, aimed at sharing experiences and promoting innovative practices in community-based adult education.
In Jiangsu (23–25 April), a symposium at the Guli Sub-district Community Education Centre in Nanjing featured exchanges on topics including intangible cultural heritage, digital literacy for the elderly, and vocational training for people with disabilities. Local initiatives focused on promoting intergenerational learning and reaching vulnerable and marginalised groups, offering tailored services such as wheelchair Tai Ji (Tai Chi). Some CLCs have expanded funding and service reach by partnering with local civil affairs and labour departments. Participants also visited courses in iron painting and traditional Guli fish ball making.

In Henan (12–14 May), the exchange seminar took place at Baliwan Community School in Kaifeng. CLCs shared practices in agricultural training, handicrafts, and targeted skills development aligned with local economic needs. Emphasis was placed on traditional culture and community revitalisation. Site visits included the Jin Bai Li Artificial Flower Factory and Fukang Farmer’s Cooperative, showcasing how vocational training contributes to employment and income generation for returned migrant workers.

In Zhejiang (28–29 May), the seminar at Cicheng Adult Secondary Cultural and Technical School in Ningbo showcased innovative models such as the “Active Ageing for Shared Prosperity Initiative” which encourages elderly participation through flexible employment. Other highlights included the integration of the bayberry industry into education through a full-cycle training system and the adoption of diverse learning formats like night schools and lunchtime classes. Delegates also visited Weila Town and Yunlu Bay Community to observe community education programmes and digital literacy services for the elderly.
