UNESCO INRULED Participated in the ASEAN Youth Camp 2025, Co-organized Regional Workshops for STEM Educators and Attended Programme Coordination Meeting

On June 17–20, 2025 , Ms Fang Yuan'an, Programme Coordinator at the UNESCO International Research and Training Centre for Rural Education (UNESCO INRULED), was invited to Thailand to participate in the ASEAN Youth Camp. During the camp, INRULED, in collaboration with the SEAMEO Regional Centre for STEM Education (STEM-ED) and the Institute of International and Comparative Education (IICE) at Beijing Normal University (BNU), co-organized the Global Citizenship Awareness Workshop and Regional Workshop for STEM Educators.

The ASEAN Youth Camp: AI Hackathon for Green Sustainability

The ASEAN Youth Camp, hosted by Thailand as Chair of the ASEAN Education Sectoral Body for 2024–2025, and co-organized by the Ministry of Education of Thailand, SEAMEO STEM-ED and ASEAN Secretariat, has centered on the theme "AI Hackathon for Green Sustainability" The camp brought together over 20 teachers and around 100 students from ASEAN member states, observer country, and China, Japan,and the Republic of Korea, along with teachers and students from six local Thai schools who provided event support. Activities included maker competitions, workshops, field visits, and cultural exchanges focusing on artificial intelligence, environmental protection, climate change, and cultural diversity. The camp aimed to foster international exchange and cooperation among educators and students, enhance global citizenship awareness, and strengthen teaching and learning capacities in the context of digital and green transitions, equipping participants with problem-solving and collaborative skills to tackle shared global challenges.

Global Citizenship Awareness Workshop and Regional Workshop for STEM Education Educators

During the camp, the SEAMEO STEM-ED, UNESCO INRULED, and IICE jointly organized two key workshops for teachers, namely, the Global Citizenship Awareness Workshop and the Regional Workshop for STEM Education Educators.

The Global Citizenship Awareness Workshop held on June 17th was led by Professor Teng Jun's team (IICE, BNU). The workshop combined lectures, teaching demonstrations, and group activities to help educators understand the principles of global citizenship education and education for international understanding education, enabling them to integrate these concepts into their teaching and cultivate students' cross-cultural awareness and collaborative problem-solving skills.

The Regional Workshop for STEM Educators was led by SAEAMEO STEM-ED and INRULED. Teachers from different countries shared STEM education practices, challenges, and policy recommendations through case studies and peer learning, fostering innovative teaching methods and professional development in STEM education.

The camp also featured a filed visit to the National Science Museum of Thailand in the morning of the 19th, including visit to its newly opened "Futurium Pavilion", which made its debut for international guests.
