Beijing Normal University Holds "Asian Civilization Dialogue Conference" series of activities "2019 Asian Regional Forum on Rural Education, Cultural Diversity and Sustainable Development"

"Civilization Exchange and Mutual Learning for the Shared Destiny for Asia" series of activities of Asian Civilizations Dialogue - 2019 Asian Regional Forum on Rural Education, Cultural Diversity and Sustainable Development was held on the 2nd floor of Yingdong Academic Hall of Beijing Normal University on May 16. This event was one of a series of university activities of the "Asian Civilizations Dialogue Conference" held in Beijing on May 15, which aims to explore how Asian villages can revitalize the countryside and achieve sustainable development by improving the quality of education, respecting, protecting and developing cultural diversity in the context of globalization and urbanization.

 

  

 

The event was organized by Beijing Normal University(BNU) and co-hosted by UNESCO International Research and Training Center for Rural Education(INRULED) and Faculty of Education of BNU, brought together a panel of experts in rural education, cultural diversity and sustainable development in Asia. Chen Guangju, Deputy Director of BNU School Affairs Committee, Huang Ronghuai, Director of INRULED, Wen Tiejun, Deputy Director of Academic Committee of Renmin University of China and Executive Director of Higher Institute for Sustainable Development, Prasert Tepanart, Deputy Secretary-General of the Secretariat of Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization, Guo Xiaoping, Expert of Basic Education Department of UNICEF China Office, Utak Chung, Former Director of Asia-Pacific Center of Education for International Understanding of UNESCO, Yasushi Maruyama, Vice President of Hiroshima University, Takeo Morimo, president of the Japan Association for International Education, Zhang Qian and Yuan Guilin, professors of Faculty of Education of BNU, engaged in thought-provoking discussions on the challenges and opportunities in rural education and sustainable development in Asia.

 

More than 100 representatives from BNU, including college students, international students and trainers of School of Teacher Training. Participated in the event.

 

  

 

In his opening address, Chen Guangju emphasized  the challenges posed by globalization and urbanization to rural education and development in Asian countries, and emphasized the challenges from globalization and urbanization to rural education and development in Asian countries, and pointed out the importance of providing cultural cultural diversity  to unleash the potential of the rural population, address urbanization challenges, and achieve sustainable development goals. Beijing Normal University  is committed to playing an active role in this field and is eager to work together to take this cause to a greater heights in the future.

 

  

 

On behalf of INRULED, Huang Ronghuai warmly greeted the guests and students in attendance. As the only international institution established by both the Chinese government and UNESCO, INRULED is delicated to conducting specialized research, training, information dissemination and networking in the field of "Education For Rural Development" in developing countries. During the meeting, Huang Ronghuai noted that it was a valuable opportunity to further strengthen cooperation among Asian countries in the areas of rural education, cultural diversity and sustainable development.

 

In the keynote sessions, Wen Tiejun and Prasert Tepanart presented speeches on "Ecological Knowledge Reconstruction and Rural Revitalization" and "Rural Education and Sustainable Development in Asia" respectively. Professor Wen presented the view of "Ecological Knowledge Reconstruction and Rural Revitalization", emphasing rural development in Asia is a crucial opportunity to organize activities that bring university students to the countryside and help them integrate with farmers. He also stressed the importance of diverse education and cultural and health initiatives for rural middle-aged and elderly individuals and women.

 

Prasert Tepanart focused on seven priorities and achievements of SEAMEO's in rural education and sustainable development in Asia. He  detailed various education projects in the Mekong region, mainly in the form of workshops that promote rural education while addressing local needs. He also emphasized the importance of informal education in rural areas and the use of social networks for communication and outreach.

 

The following guest dialogue session saw a lively discussion between Chinese and foreign guests on the meaning and relationship between rural education, cultural diversity, and sustainable development.  They also explored the role and function of various stakeholders in promoting education, preserving cultural diversity, and advancing rural development. Participants also exchanged ideas on effective approaches to rural education and sustainable development in Asian countries and discussed the future of rural development and the role of education and cultural diversity in it. The meeting concluded with productive discussions on ways to improve rural education and sustainable development across Asian countries.

 

  

 

In the Q&A session, the audience showed great enthusiasm and asked questions focusing on the challenges, future prospects and paths to sustainable development of rural education in specific Asian countries.

 

  

 

Asian countries share the same mountains and rivers, the same hearts and minds of people, and the same destiny. This forum is an important part of the "2019 Asian Civilization Dialogue Conference" and the practical action of BNU to carry out the theme of "Civilization Exchange and Mutual Learning for the Shared Destiny for Asia" in the field of rural education. Keeping the faith of "Harmony in Diversity to Build a Diversified and Harmonious World". The light of mutual learning shines on the shared future of Asia and the world.
