On 23-25 July, the STEMtastic Adventures Africa 2025, jointly organised by the Mobile Internet Education Alliance, the African Union Commission, and Centre for Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA), was held in Nairobi, Kenya. Over 600 delegates representing more than 90 institutions and governmental organisations from over 30 countries attended the event. Ms. Niu Xinyi, Programme Coordinator from the UNESCO International Research and Training Centre for Rural Education (INRULED), participated in the conference and delivered a presentation.

On the panel Inspiring Girls in STEM," Niu Xinyi introduced INRULED's efforts to empower girls and women by promoting the participation in STEM education and digital skills development. In research, she highlighted INRULED’s joint publication with Plan International (China) titled Towards 2030: Promoting Gender-Transformative STEM Education for Girls and Women. In terms of practical initiatives, she introduced the Closing the Digital Divide: Empowering Girls and Women through Education Project jointly implemented with Beijing Normal University and UNESCO. This project, through activities such as teacher capacity development, aims to increase girls' interest and confidence in the digital field. The presentation underscored the importance of gender mainstreaming and breaking down gender stereotypes to encourage girls' and women's participation and increase their confidence in STEM. It also highlighted China's contributions to sharing experiences and innovative practices that support on girls' and women's education globally.
